Well, it's time for me to upgrade my turbos, my stockers just developed a leak. I had my mind completely set on GT2530's because they are exactly what I'm looking for, ball bearing, right amount of power, good drivability. However, I have yet to see them priced below ~$3500. While I can afford this, it'll put me into some debt. I'm going to be going through Ultimate Z for the install for ~$1500, since they're half an hour away and I trust that they know what they're doing. However, a friend of mine brought my attention to the Z1 550 Turbos. For the price (under $2k from my understanding, $16XX if I remember correctly - remember, new stock turbos are ~$1900), they are a killer deal. They are supposed to be a direct replacement as well. How well do the GT2530's mount compared to them? How high can these turbos boost (GT2530's are in the mid to high 20psi level from my research, I saw 27 as the highest)? How much can they flow compared to the GT2530's? What about lag? The non-ball-bearing factor upsets me a little, because based on my research, I understand that ball-bearing turbos will typically last longer. And HKS has a little more experience under their belt (no offense to any Z1 employees) so that would make me feel a little better. But, considering I'm going to be doing this in the next month, if the Z1 turbos will be available by then (with dyno charts please) I might consider those so that I can save a lot of money. Any info or opinions would help. And NO, I WILL NOT GET PE1420's because they seem to cause too many problems and I don't want the hassle (and I don't want any remarks about that line please)
